To power smarter freight movement at scale—for business, people, and the world it moves through.
Transportation powers everything we rely on. At scale, it becomes nearly impossible to plan, route, and decide efficiently without help. We build tools that cut through the complexity, so large networks can move smarter, and the people behind them can lead with confidence.
We’re helping the world’s largest transportation networks run smarter through collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to making an impact.
1980 – 2000
Academic and Research Foundations of Optym
Dr. Ravi Ahuja completes his Ph.D. in the field of Network Optimization from IIT Kanpur, and pursues an academic research career at IIT Kanpur, MIT Cambridge, and the University of Florida, Gainesville. His research at MIT produces the book, “Network Flows: Theory, Algorithms, and Applications,” which receives the best publication of the year award in 1993 in the field of Operations Research and Management Science.
2000 – 2010
Founding and Early Growth
Optym was founded in 2000 by Dr. Ravi Ahuja to turn his academic research into software products. After receiving several NSF SBIR (Small Business Innovations Research) grants in 2004 - 2006, the company expanded its team with Ph.D. talent from the university and began developing software products for the rail industry, laying the foundation for its product future. Several Class I railroads including CSX Transportation, BNSF Railways, and Norfolk Southern became Optym’s clients.
2013
Expansion into Airlines
In 2013, Southwest Airlines partnered with Optym to build a new generation of airline network planning tools, leading to the creation of the SkySuite product line. Optym’s solutions created business value of hundreds of millions of dollars annually for Southwest Airlines. That same year, Optym opened a development center in Bangalore, India, establishing a global engineering presence to support growing demand of its optimization products.
2015
Entry into LTL Optimization
Optym launched HaulPlan in 2015, its first LTL optimization product for middle mile Network Planning and its first SaaS offering. This marked Optym’s entry into the less-than-truckload segment and kicked off a wave of innovation that positioned the company as a leader in LTL network optimization and transportation efficiency. This first product eventually led to new SaaS products for middle mile LTL planning and operations: DriverPlan and LiveHaul.
2018
Maturity of Airline Suite
By 2018, Optym released the complete SkySuite of products for Airline Network Planning, including SkyMax, SkySym, SkyCast, SkyPlan, and SkyWorks. These SaaS products revolutionized network planning for airlines by enabling better route profitability, schedule planning, simulation, and forecasting through advanced analytics and optimization technologies tailored for the aviation sector. Several international airlines licensed Optym’s SkySuite.
2020
Expansion into Full Truckload
Optym entered the full truckload space in 2020 with LoadOps, a Transportation Management System (TMS) purpose-built for small to mid-sized full truckload carriers. This strategic move expanded Optym’s product portfolio beyond LTL and aviation, addressing the planning and operational challenges of full truckload carriers. Over 100 full truckload carriers use LoadOps to manage their day-to-day operations.
2020 – 2021
Strategic Realignment
In 2020, Amadeus, world’s largest airline software provider, acquired Optym’s SkySuite for Airline Network Planning, validating years of innovations in the aviation sector. A year later, Optym relocated its headquarters to Dallas, Texas, to strengthen access to tech and business development talent and be closer to major transportation and logistics clients.
2022 – 2023
Broadened Transportation Portfolio
Optym broadened its reach in 2022 with a new product RouteMax targeting first and final mile operations. In 2023, it entered airline operations with AI-powered tools to help charter airlines manage real-time disruptions. Optym also develops an AI-powered tool, GateAi, to automate and optimize the assignment of aircraft to gates for a major US airline. Thus, Optym expanded its role across the end-to-end transportation ecosystem.
2024
LoadAi Launch
In 2024, Optym launched LoadAi, its flagship optimization engine for full truckload carriers and brokerages. LoadAi enhances profitability and improves driver satisfaction by intelligent driver-to-load matching, balancing cost, service, and preferences. LoadAi also enables consolidation of several partial truckload shipments into multi-pickup and multi-dropoff full truckload routes. This release reinforced Optym’s commitment to practical, high-impact optimization across the entire logistics industry.
2025
Innovation Continues
Optym continues its journey of bringing optimization and AI across multiple modes of transportation. Opym added the product NetworkAi to its airline portfolio that will assist airlines to better manage deviations and disruptions to flight schedules; improved RailMax with new and innovative algorithms; added new features to LoadAi related to Load Selection and Network Balance; and initiated a new AI product for dock management – DockAi.
